HOT, HOT, HOT in Fulda

Just 10 minutes north of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, lies a little village that awakens every July to the crackle and pop of race pipes. Fulda has had races for over 20 years, and the crowd is a dedicated bunch. The 330 spectator's dedication was tested this year, as the sweltering heat rose into the mid 30's. They came dressed for the occasion and prepared for the afternoon.

The track was in great shape for the cleated tracks. Firm and hard kept the big sleds blasting out of the hole all day and the dust was kept down by all the moisture we previously had. These conditions were not good for the rubber tracks though, as they could not get a grip on the hard start line. Being only 450 feet, this track showed some outstanding times. A few runs in the 4.5s were absolutely smokin.

Jamie Hoggs Rockin 500 Open Mod.

Out of Red Deer Alberta, Jamie Hogg of Hogg Wild Racing, put together some fine wins with his open mod 500. This little mod has got a list of major wins that run from coast to coast. This race proved no different. Running in the 500 and 600 Open Mod classes, he placed first in both and a first in 600 Heavy Mod. His 1000 had some problems and couldn't compete. Jamie mentioned that his wife and financial adviser, Joy, has given him clearance for his next project. Can't wait to see what it is!

It was good to see GPL Racing come down for this race. Paul Gardiner and the gang just wanted to see how their sleds would act on the grass. Well from my observation, they acted like they belong on the grass. Leslie Gardiner placed 3rd in Prostock 1000 with his full bodied sled and captured a first in Open Mod 1000, second in Open King and third in Heavy Mod 1000 with their Open Mod 1000 sled. You can't complain about that Paul.

Albert Ratti from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, tecked this race, and ran his open mod 600. Ratti Performance showed this sled last year at Hay Days and recieved " Best Engineered" Award, along with a 4th in Heavy Mod 700. This clean little 600, ran consistent all day by placing second in Open Mod 600 and 700. He had a very busy day, and a huge thanks for being able to do it all and still smile. He's just crazy for this sport, or maybe just crazy!

No Quads at this race, left Brad Enns on the sideline this day. He said that was OK, because he just wanted to take care of business and stay in the shade. A couple of Motocross bikes came out to challenge each other and gave the crowd a their dose of wheeled action.

Trent Diederich's 600 stock Fusion.

The heat proved too much for a couple of machines. Haywire Racings Prostock 1000 made some blistering runs, only to shut down in the preliminaries. Tim Palmer entered a few classes, only to place in one. A new Open Mod 1000 4 cylinder entered the scene from Pinehouse Saskatchewan. Rene's sled was being setup by Don Klassen and Don had his hands full. The air quality and the temp made it extremely difficult to get the bugs out. This bruiser will go, in time.

Wes Kalthoff mentioned that this was the best race Fulda has ever had. The pit setup was by far the best, and most efficient I had seen. The temperatures were high, and competition, even higher. This was a Grass Drags Grass Drag. It really had it all. The gang and volunteers from Fulda can be proud of the show they put on.
