Snow Drag Race Elimination Format
For each class, all registered sled numbers will be placed on a chart showing the heat number and the lanes assigned to each sled. The race order for the classes will be mixed up to attempt to avoid as much as possible the likelihood of a racer having to run back to back heats. It is important that racers know their sled number and make sure they are placed into the proper classes for which they have entered.
There will be two different scenarios that will determine if and how a sled will advance to the next heat, assuming 4 sleds in each heat. The first scenario is if there are less than 150 sled-entries for an event. The second is if there are more than 150 sled-entries for an event. As an example; if 40 sleds attend an event but they each enter into 3 classes, this would be considered 120 sled-entries and scenario one would be put into effect. As another example, if 80 sleds attend an event and they each enter into 2 classes, that would result in 160 sled-entries and scenario two would be put into effect.
Scenario 1: With a smaller number of entries, time will permit the event to allow each sled to have at least 2 runs in each class for which it was entered. Should a racer not place 1st or 2nd in their first heat, there will be a "second chance" heat to allow the racer to advance. Depending on the number of entries, a racer not winning the second chance heat may be eliminated from competition.
Scenario 2: With a larger number of entries, time will not permit a second chance heat and still allow an event to finish during the short winter daylight hours of one day. In this case, only the 1st and 2nd place finishers of a heat (assuming 4 racers in a heat) will advance to the next heat.
EXCEPTION TO BOTH SCENARIOS: If in any class there are 4 or fewer sleds entered, there will always be 2 heats. The first will be a qualifier and the second will be the final. The winner of the qualifier will be awarded their choice of lane for the final. The 2nd place finisher in the qualifier will get second lane choice, as so forth. All sleds entered in the class must qualifiy by completing the qualifying heat. Sleds that do not make the qualifying heat or for some reason become disqualified in the qualifying heat, will not be entitled to race in the final. For example, should a sled "red light" or run out of lane (two common reasons for a DQ), that sled will not be allowed to compete in the final.
